About For Kalamazoo
A movement shaped by listening, unity, and shared commitment to the good of our county.
Our Story
HOW IT BEGAN
For Kalamazoo was born out of a growing movement happening in cities across the country, recognizing that meaningful change requires collaboration, not isolation.
Over several months, we met with leaders across sectors, including faith, education, healthcare, government, business, and nonprofit. Those conversations revealed several shared challenges, including the idea that while Kalamazoo is rich in resources, opportunities for increased impact are often missed as organizations work independently.
We believe that when people align their efforts, share what they're learning, and move forward toward a shared vision, the whole community benefits.
- As trust deepens and collaboration grows, the Church is invited into a visible role marked by humility, presence, and partnership for the good of all. This is not about elevating one organization or even a whole sector. It is about strengthening the fabric of the entire community.
- To help guide this work, a cross-sector group of leaders formed the For Kalamazoo Cabinet, ensuring this remains a community-shaped effort rather than something held by a single institution.
- While Centerpoint Church currently funds the Director role, For Kalamazoo belongs to the church of Kalamazoo and to the greater community. It is shaped, guided, and strengthened by the people and partnerships that make Kalamazoo County home.
